Visitor Reviews

This review submitted by Neils Johs. Legarth Iversen January 2001
The Parque de las Leyendas Zoo of Peruvian capital Lima has one special feature, namely an old Inca ruin in the middle of the compound. But to me it just looked like a low mound without any discernable structure, and you're not allowed inside the ruin area. The zoo has an international department, but it is small and sparsely populated (though I remember that they had one venerable old elephant, a lion or two plus a group of penguins). The collection of native animals is divided according to region: a 'Zona Central' (coast), a 'Zona Sierra' (mountains) and a 'Zona Selva' (jungles), plus they have made a special section for the bird life of Peru and a large enclosure with deer. I didn't note down the whole animal collection, but I think it just about covers what they've got in that country. At least I remember that they had all four kinds of llama and not only jaguars, but also several kinds of small cats. As for the birds the emphasis is on the more spectacular species, such as a multitude of brightly coloured parrots. Some of the birds have large round cages almost like huts. The zoo, which is said to receive a lot of visitors especially in the weekend, also has several playgrounds for kids, - plus one of these contraptions, where you enter a moving box and watches films of roller coaster tours etc. while you are tossed around to simulate movement. Outside the zoo there is a large souvenir market
